The Company’s Founder
Manfred Sauer - was born in 1944, is the Managing Director of Manfred Sauer GmbH and its subsidiary companies. Manfred has had tetraplegia since 1963 after a diving accident in the UK. He was rehabilitated at Stoke Mandeville Spinal Unit in England in the days of its founder Sir Ludwig Guttmann. In 1965 he began to develop and market condom catheters. In 1976 he launched Manfred Sauer GmbH, now a firmly established business enjoying a large share in the rehabilitation marketplace for continence systems in Europe and an increasing market share in mainstream continence management in the UK.

Because of his own experience as a paraplegic since his accident Manfred decided upon the idea for his foundation. His own destiny inspired him to pass on his knowledge of how to actively take charge of one's own life despite of a disability. In recent times he had started wondering what was to become of the Manfred Sauer Company? How can the jobs in Lobbach and the pursuance of the individual approach be secured? How can the economic success benefit those that brought it about? The Manfred Sauer Foundation is the answer to these questions.

The Manfred Sauer Foundation was opened on 21st May 2006
Helping with the psychological rehabilitation of people and their families after traumatic accident or illness, The Foundation sees itself as a place of positive interaction between disabled people and the so called 'able bodied', where they can learn to master the reality of their lives with responsibility and fantasy.
The Manfred Sauer Foundation was opened on 21st May 2006. It is a not-for-profit organization which has been funded and is supported from the profits of the commercial continence systems manufacturing company, Manfred Sauer GmbH and its subsidiaries. Essentially all the profits from the commercial Company, after reinvestment to ensure its continuing existence, go to support the Foundation. So there are no 'fat cat' shareholders here! This is Manfred's legacy to give something back both to the disabled community all over the world who use the products, as well as to the local community who have worked on the manufacturing site and made the Company such a success over the years. The Foundation is a resource to be used by all regardless of ability!
It has received a very positive response not only from wheelchair users, but also from the local community. With their lively interest in the widespread offers of the Foundation they ensure that this institution does not turn into a pure disabled facility, but a meeting place for all people regardless of physical impairment.
